With 6 seconds left in the game, Sooner kicker Uwe von Schamann led the chants of "BLOCK THAT KICK." Two coaching legends, Woody Hayes and Barry Switzer, squared off in the first ever meeting between the 2 college football powers. In an ABC nationally televised game, von Schamann kicked a last second field goal to give Oklahoma a 29-28 victory in front of 88,119, the largest crowd in Ohio State history up to that time.
The Sooners jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Buckeyes fought back to take the lead 28-26 before von Schamann's 41 yard historic field goal.
